Cuisine..Indian
We were three. One can prepare only Rasam and the other 2 only Sambar.  And all the three are vegetarians.  And imagine in a country where meat is for breakfast and well..for dinner too.  The nearest Indian grocery is 15 miles where you get vegetables  and it gets rotten by the time you reach the place where you live.  This is the place where we st... more...

Mosquixote Part II
(Note:  Please read Mosquixote Part I before reading this )The sun suddenly forayed into my living room.  Perhaps a few clouds would have given way to the chap to show his brilliance.  The rays entered through an opening which was beside the window. And I still wondered for what fantastic reason my landlord has made that opening in my living room. ... more...

Sonias Profit, Indias Loss
The so called supreme sacrifice by congress president Sonia Gandhi was unwarranted and will have a spiraling effect on the other members of both houses. There are close to about 40 members who may come under the disqualification clause. And imagine if all the 40 or so takes the moral high ground as that of Sonia, resign from the parliament and cont... more...

MosQuixote - Part 1
Astounding I would say. She was the one never to quit. Shamelessly she flew around me. Despite getting two whacks from my fingers, she had the courage to attack me once again. Something in this chap told she is quite different from her fellow mosquitoes. I have seen her clan attacking me, relishing my blood they sucked, but eventually committing ha... more...

Modi for PM
Why shouldn't Narendra Modi be the next PM?Future is looking Grrreat for Mr Modi.  I know that secularist ilanders will be outraged and bewildered.  Partly it is them and their ilk that are unwittingly helping Modi.Cocky, sharp-shooter, arrogant, over-confident but he is also very clean and uncorrupt. If a company is judged by its annual report, ret...  more...

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become k...  more...

About four years ago, the then Defence Minister of India, George Fernandes, who was on an official visit to Washington, was "strip-searched" by the U.S. security at the airport. In response, the usually thunderous Fernandes behaved like a scared puppy, and stomached his humiliation quietly without telling a soul. A year later, Strobe Talbott, the f...  more...

An Evening in ChanakyaIn the late seventies and early eighties, the government-run Chanakya Cinema was one of the very theatres in Delhi that regularly screened English films. Once in a while, Chanakya also hosted foreign film festivals. The Nirula’s had set up shop nearby and their pizzas and ice creams were indeed a treat those days when there wa...  more...

Bees saal baad
I think it’s the time for re-runs in my life! Last year I embarked on a road trip down south and visited places that I had not been to for 20-odd years. And in a week’s time, I will be visiting another country which I last saw 20years ago. A lot has changed in India in the meantime, and in life. I wonder what kind of changes have happened in a coun...  more...
